What Janis Said About Liposuction on Her Post Baby Tummy

“After my second child was born five years ago I was left with this unsightly pouch of fat – otherwise known as a muffin top. I’ve never been overweight and have always eaten healthily, but no matter what I did I couldn’t shift this bulge.
I had given some consideration to liposuction, but as a working mother I just couldn’t justify being out of action for so long. When I was out with a friend we were discussing what wonderful (!) things pregnancy does to your body, and she told me about the low down-time lipo they do in Dundrum Medical Cosmetic Clinic.
She’d heard you didn’t even need to have a full general anaesthetic, it was all done with local. I had to know more! I called the next day, and a very friendly girl called Mary filled me in on the procedure, and directed me to their website to get the full low-down.
This looked ideal for me, so I booked an assessment with Sue to see if I was suitable. I had heard from my friend they turn away more people then they accept (they didn’t accept her as she was on a certain medication), but after asking me lots of questions, Sue the Patient Coordinator seemed happy enough to put me forward to talk to the surgeon.
Sue told me what to expect during and afterwards. Usually I take an age to make my mind up about something, but I decided this was absolutely the best way for me to get my pre-baby figure back, so I went ahead and booked for 2 weeks later.
When I arrived for my procedure I was really nervous, as I’m quite squeamish when it comes to needles etc., but the surgeon was great (very down to earth) and fully aware of how nervous I was. He went through every step of what was to come. He then took some cringingly awful before pictures and gave me a mild sedative which sorted out the last of the nerves.
The nurse then brought in to the procedure room where I was prepped and given a local anaesthetic to both sides of my tummy. This felt no more than a scratch (that was the extent of the pain from then on). The surgeon talked me through each step as he worked away. The sedative was working, I didn’t really care what he was doing, I just chatted with the nurse. Now and again I could feel a slight tugging sensation but that was it.
It sounds a bit weird when I think about it now, but as I watched him suction off the liquefied fat the feeling of satisfaction as the container filled up was making me dizzy with delight. When he had finished I couldn’t believe that that was all there was to it. I could instantly see my tummy was flat.
I was then helped into a compression garment and given a short course of antibiotics and some painkillers. My friend who had originally told me about this procedure came in to bring me home. She says I was wearing the silliest grin on my face all the way home – I think it was the drugs…
For the rest of the day I took it easy lounging on the couch, and by the next day I was up and about again. Although the area was still swollen and sensitive, it felt a lot better than I expected. Two days later I was back to work, feeling a little tender, but nothing I couldn’t handle with a couple of painkillers.
The best part was 2 weeks later when I went back to the clinic to get my after photographs taken. It’s really weird how quickly you forget what you’ve looked like before, but the change in my tummy is absolutely brilliant.
It’s now 3 weeks later and I am ecstatic with the results!! I have dropped a whole jeans size and even started buying clothes I would never have imagined myself in before.
My confidence has completely soared since getting it done, and now I really do feel like a Yummy Mummy!
